Arriving in Seoul at 5am? Here's Exactly What to Do Until Check-In
There are two genuinely hard times to land in Seoul. Here is what is running, what is open and what a bed costs in each of them.

Two hard hours
Most flights into Incheon are fine. Two arrival windows are not.
Land after about 23:00 and the trains into the centre have stopped or are about to. Land before about 07:00 and the trains are running but the city is shut, and your hotel will not let you in until the afternoon.
This guide covers both, with the numbers. We re-checked every one of them on 12 October 2026 and eight things in the September version were wrong. Where it mattered, we say so in the text.
If you land after 23:00
These are AREX's own timetable figures. The operator's timetable pages carry no revision date, so check the board on the night.
- Last express to Seoul Station: 22:40 from Terminal 2, 22:48 from Terminal 1, arriving 23:31.
- Last all-stop train that reaches Seoul Station: 23:32 from Terminal 2, 23:38 from Terminal 1.
- The trap: there are later trains, 23:50 from Terminal 2 and 23:56 from Terminal 1, but they terminate at Digital Media City. They do not reach Hongik University or Seoul Station. Do not board one expecting to get to the centre.
The daytime airport limousines stop earlier than most people think. From Terminal 1 the last departures run from 22:25 (route 6701) to 23:30 (route 6103), and from Terminal 2 every route leaves 20 minutes earlier, so 22:05 to 23:10. Some routes finish far earlier: 6104 at 18:50, 6500 at 20:50.
If you have missed all of that, you have three options.
Night buses. Incheon runs four, not five. N6000 goes to the Express Bus Terminal in Gangnam via Songjeong and Yeomchang stations. N6002 goes to Cheongnyangni via Hongdae and Heunginjimun. N6701 goes to Dongdaemun Design Plaza via Mapo, Seoul Station and Euljiro 1-ga. N6703 goes to Gwangnaru via Seorae Village, COEX and Jamsil. They run from 23:40 to 04:50 from Terminal 1, and 23:20 to 04:30 from Terminal 2.
Correction: our September version listed an N6001 to Seoul Station via Yongsan and Sinchon. Incheon Airport lists no such route. The night bus that reaches Seoul Station is N6701, and it does not pass Yongsan or Sinchon.
A taxi, at the worst possible hour. On a Seoul taxi the medium-taxi starting fare is ₩4,800 by day. It becomes ₩5,800 between 22:00 and 23:00 and between 02:00 and 04:00, and ₩6,700 between 23:00 and 02:00, a 40% surcharge. In other words, the hour the trains stop is the hour a taxi costs the most.
Two things the September version got wrong here. First, Seoul's 20% out-of-city surcharge does not apply between Incheon Airport and Seoul; the city says so in its own fare table. Second, taxis at Incheon queue by region, and a Seoul taxi charges Seoul's tariff. Incheon taxis start at the same ₩4,800 with the same 20% and 40% windows; Gyeonggi taxis add 30% from 23:00 to 04:00.
Or don't go into the city at all. See the next section.

Sleeping at the airport, priced
Incheon is unusually good at this, and it is often the better call than a 40% taxi at midnight followed by a 03:00 check-in.
Darakhyu, run by Walkerhill, is in the public (landside) area of both terminals: the Transportation Center, 1st floor, at Terminal 1, and the Transportation Center, basement level 1, at Terminal 2. The Terminal 1 pages say 60 rooms; the Terminal 2 pages give no count. Day use is a three-hour minimum between 08:00 and 20:00. Overnight is twelve hours from check-in, for arrivals between 20:00 and 08:00. An extra hour is ₩10,000. Rates include 10% VAT and are the weekday rates.

The cheaper option, and the one that isn't there
Incheon Airport lists a 24-hour spa and sauna in the basement of both terminals, now called SPA at Home: Terminal 1 basement level 1, east side, and Terminal 2 basement level 1. It closes for cleaning between 23:30 and midnight. The airport publishes no prices and we could not find an operator page, so we have removed the prices the September version carried. Ask at the desk.
Skip the free rest zones. They are real, the nap zones and relax zones near the transfer lounges on level 4, but every one is airside, in the duty-free area. Once you have come through immigration you cannot get back to them. Incheon lists no free landside rest area in either terminal, and the September version was wrong to say there was one in the basement.
If you land before 07:00
The trains start earlier than the city does. AREX's first all-stop train towards Seoul leaves Terminal 2 at 05:08 and Terminal 1 at 05:14. Subway first trains vary by line and station; Seoul Metro publishes them per station on its Cyber Station pages rather than as one citywide time.
The early-bird discount does apply from the airport. Start your journey before 06:30 with a transit card and you get 20% off the base fare, not the whole fare. AREX's own tariff excludes trips that stay entirely inside its airport-to-Cheongna section, and trips where you transferred from another mode first.

All-stop fares are transit-card prices; a single-use ticket is ₩100 more. Some limousine routes cost ₩16,000 and the 6100 and 6700 series cost ₩18,000.
So you are in central Seoul by 06:30 with a suitcase and the best part of a day to fill. Here is the honest picture.
Almost nothing is open. Gwangjang Market's general market runs 09:00 to 18:00 and closes Sundays; its food alley runs 09:00 to 23:00 daily. Gyeongbokgung opens at 09:00, closes on Tuesdays and costs ₩3,000, free if you wear hanbok. From 29 October to 15 November 2026 it is free for everyone, but still closed on Tuesdays. Do not build a 06:00 plan around either.
What is actually open before 09:00:
- A 24-hour jjimjilbang. Visit Seoul lists SPAREX at Goodmorning City as open 24 hours, on basement level 3 of 247 Jangchungdan-ro, Jung-gu, by Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station. Shower, sleep, and come out into a Seoul that has woken up. We could not confirm its prices or which exit to use, and that listing was last revised in December 2025, so ring ahead.
We have dropped Namdaemun from this list. The September version said its wholesale trade peaks between 23:00 and 04:00; no official source says that, and the only night-trading hours we found are on a market table dated 2016.
Put the bag down first, and mind the hours. Seoul Metro's staffed T-Luggage counter at Seoul Station is on basement level 1, towards Exit 1, but it opens at 09:00 and closes at 22:00, so it is no use at 06:30. Its coin lockers, T-Locker, run 05:00 to 24:00, and you cannot put in or take out a bag outside those hours. A small locker is ₩2,200 for four hours on a weekday, ₩3,100 at the weekend.
The paperwork trap nobody mentions
Being exempt from K-ETA does not exempt you from the arrival card.
Every foreign national entering Korea files an arrival card unless they are exempt. Holders of a valid K-ETA are exempt (unless they are entering on a visa). But K-ETA itself is temporarily waived until 31 December 2026 for Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Macao, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, the UK and the US (including Guam), and, under the extension announced in December 2025, Switzerland and Liechtenstein too. If you are from one of those, you have no K-ETA, so you do need an arrival card.
Correction: the September version said the electronic card became mandatory on 1 January 2026. It did not. The Korea Immigration Service says you can file either the paper card or the e-Arrival Card, and they have the same effect. The online one is free and can be filed from three days before you land, which saves you a form on the plane.
Getting online
SK Telecom's own site lists its airport-pickup SIM with voice and text at ₩18,000 for three days, ₩27,500 for five, ₩35,000 for seven and ₩38,500 for ten, bought online in advance. Its cheapest data-only SIM is ₩6,500 for one day. At least one SK Telecom counter at Incheon is open 24 hours.
On passports: SK Telecom says data works without passport verification, but incoming calls and texts need it. We could not reach LG U+'s site, so we have removed its prices.
If what is worrying you is paying for things once you are in, read why your card keeps getting declined in Korea before you land. For where to base yourself, start with where to stay in Seoul, and if a few hours in a capsule is all you need, is a capsule hotel worth it explains what you are actually booking.
What we couldn't confirm

If you’re staying nearby
Sunday Morning
- Sunday Morning is a capsule hotel in Jongno-gu, a short walk from Gwanghwamun.
- Check-in is self-service around the clock, so a 05:00 arrival does not depend on anyone being at a desk, and lockers are free if you arrive before your capsule is ready.
- Capsules start at ₩49,000. These are the hotel's own figures and cannot be checked against an outside source.
